The brewery’s origins trace back to founder Scott, who began brewing with a home-brew kit gifted by his partner, Sandy. Following public support for expansion, the current Mooresville location opened, and the brand was rebranded as Hoptown Brewing Co. Head Brewer Kyle brings extensive experience to the team, having brewed and packaged at Twenty-Six Acres in Charlotte, worked at Sugar Creek Brewing, and served as the head brewer for Jekyll and Hyde in Belmont, NC. Kyle, who is married to Brandi and has two sons, Clayton and Callum, has also coached youth and high school lacrosse for twelve years.

Hoptown Brewing Co. is recognized for its positive customer reception and commitment to sustainable practices. The business actively participates in the local ecosystem by sending spent grain to local farmers, using compostable plastic cups for water, and collecting Pack Tech 4-pack can tops. It also holds an Honorable Mention from the Local Grain category at the 2024 CIBA Brewed Awards. The facility includes a patio and a backyard area where dogs are allowed on a leash.
