Owner Tim Grier founded CET Computer Magic in July 2008, starting from his son’s bedroom before moving to the Athena Building in Mooresville’s Lakeside Business Park. Grier’s background includes service as a Russian Linguist and Electronic Switching Systems Maintenance Technician in the U.S. Air Force, followed by work as a civilian contractor for GTE Government Systems. He also taught at Wayside Elementary, Mooresville High School, and Mitchell Community College. His team provides individualized support, ranging from basic troubleshooting to complex hardware replacements like motherboards, hard drives, and batteries. They specialize in data recovery, utilizing clean room partnerships for severely damaged drives, and offer certified refurbished computers and custom-built machines for gaming or professional use.

The business is known for its honest approach to repairs, often advising clients on whether to fix or replace equipment based on cost-effectiveness rather than immediate profit. Customers highlight Tim Grier’s expertise in troubleshooting gaming PCs, removing viruses, and performing free repairs for minor issues. The team handles everything from printer configuration and email setup to operating system reloads and software installation for applications like QuickBooks, Sage, and Microsoft 365. Their depot services address both hardware failures, such as cracked screens and swollen batteries, and software issues, including corrupted files and system errors. For Apple Mac repairs, they assess the device in-office to determine part availability or refer clients to specialized local partners.
