Hawfields Child Care

Hawfields Child Care is a daycare in Mebane, NC, located at 2115-C NC-119. It holds a rating of 4.10 based on customer reviews. The facility is a North Carolina licensed child care center that serves infants as young as 6 weeks through third grade after school care. Currently, the center serves 140 children from infancy through preschool, as well as 25 school-age children.

The center was established in the early 1960s by Hawfields Presbyterian Church. In 1965, Ellen T. Lawrence began serving as both director and sole teacher, caring for 13 children. Enrollment grew steadily each year, and the program soon expanded to serve children ages two through five. In the late 1980s, the church and Ms. Agnes Scott Haesler envisioned the construction of a dedicated childcare center on church property. That vision became a reality in 1993 with the opening of the current facility, which added infant care and increased enrollment capacity to 111 children, ages six weeks through five years, along with space for an afterschool program. Following Ellen's retirement in 2014, Christy McCawley, who has been part of the office staff since 1998, was hired by the Board of Directors as the current director.

The kitchen team prepares nutritious meals for the children and staff daily. Sample meals include breakfast options like Toasty O's, egg and cheese omelets, Belgian waffles, and grits with cheese. Lunch options include grilled chicken, chicken nuggets, cheese quesadillas, and grilled chicken fajitas. Snacks include string cheese, baby carrots, animal crackers, blueberries, applesauce, graham crackers, and strawberry yogurt. The center also accommodates food allergies and sensitivities.

The center sits on NC-119, just a tenth of a mile from State Highway 119, and is located about a fifth of a mile from Hawfields Community Park. It is also roughly two fifths of a mile from Meadowood Lake.
