Dr. Ivy Oakley Heath founded the hospital in April 2008 in Grifton, North Carolina, to bring a higher standard of veterinary care to a community that previously lacked a veterinarian. She built the practice from the ground up, starting with zero clients. Dr. Heath, who was born and raised in New Bern, taught high school biology before attending the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2013, with her father’s help, she oversaw the construction of a new, nearly 5,000-square-foot hospital. That same year, the hospital was chosen as one of the top four in the US by IDEXX Laboratories out of almost 40,000 hospitals. Dr. Heath’s favorite areas of veterinary medicine include dermatology, internal medicine, endocrinology, and pain management.

The hospital operates as a referral-based clinic focused on healing the bond between pets and their owners. The team emphasizes a low-stress environment that increases trust and avoids compromising the human-animal relationship during treatment. They provide in-depth behavior counseling and multi-modal pain management to support pets through their years. The practice welcomes pets and people into their community, aiming to educate and empower owners to understand their pet’s needs.

The business is known for its positive rating from the customers who have reviewed it, reflecting the reputation Dr. Heath and her team have built over more than a decade of service.
