Matthews Animal Clinic

Matthews Animal Clinic is a veterinarian in Indian Trail, NC, located on Monroe Rd. The practice provides full veterinary services, advanced diagnostics, and surgery for pets in the Matthews, Stallings, Indian Trail, and South Charlotte area.

Matthews Animal Clinic opened in 1968, when Matthews was a small town with one grocery store, one barber, and two hardware stores. The clinic began as a full-service practice that treated companion animals, farm animals, and horses, and it was not unusual to see a horse trailer in the parking lot or to find the doctor out delivering a calf. In 1977 the clinic became a two-veterinarian practice, and by 1996 it had grown to five veterinarians. As Matthews expanded, the clinic ended its large animal work to concentrate on dogs, cats, and pocket pets. The practice describes itself as the oldest and largest veterinary hospital in the Matthews area.

The medical team focuses on preventive care, with thorough yearly examinations that cover teeth, throat, oral cavity, vision, eyes, ears, respiratory system, heart, reflexes, lymph nodes, abdomen, skin, joints, and muscles. Beyond wellness, the clinic offers allergy and dermatology treatment, glaucoma testing, nutrition counseling, behavior counseling, cancer treatment, and internal medicine for complex diseases affecting internal organs and body systems. Office manager Lisa Sidders has been with the clinic since 1991, and practice manager Dawn Cook joined as a veterinary technician after graduating from Gaston College in 2009, becoming head technician in 2016 and practice manager in 2023. Doctor hours run Monday through Friday by appointment from 8am to 5:30pm, with walk-ins and established-client appointments on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am, and the clinic is closed on Sunday. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 12pm. The first Wednesday of each month is closed from 12pm to 1:30pm.

As the longest-running veterinary hospital in the Matthews area, Matthews Animal Clinic brings decades of experience to pet owners in Indian Trail and the surrounding communities.
