Security has been the company's business since 1936, when Thomas D. Clark of Hendersonville founded Southern Burglar Alarm Co, Inc. after having a system installed in his own business. Mr. Clark ran the company from his home and installed systems as far away as Raleigh, Columbia, Athens, and Johnson City. At age 84, he sold the business to Dan Waddell, who purchased it on January 1, 1977 with his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Steve Johnson. The company became the first, and remains the only, locally-owned alarm company in Western North Carolina certified by Underwriter's Laboratories. It was also chosen as the exclusive security dealer in WNC for First Alert Professional Security Systems.

Over the decades the company acquired Appalachian Security in Franklin, Sounds Good Electronic in Andrews, All Pro Alarm in Clayton, GA, and Smoky Mountain Systems in Franklin, combining two offices into one and adding a branch in North Hendersonville. Owner Steve Johnson later welcomed his son-in-law Mark Russell into the business, keeping it family-owned. Its technicians are full-time employees rather than contractors, more than 70 percent have been with the team over ten years, and all are licensed, bonded, and background checked. Office hours run 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, with staff on call 24 hours a day. The company participates in the Work with Heart Charitable Giving Program.
