Julie and Phil Wilmot opened Art on 7th in the fall of 2021 after moving to Western North Carolina in 2018 from Dallas, Texas. Phil brings experience as a successful business owner and contractor specializing in commercial and residential projects, while Julie offers over 35 years of experience in marketing, advertising, design, strategic planning, event planning, fundraising, and public relations. The couple resides in Horse Shoe, NC, and has three adult children and two grandchildren. In June 2024, the Wilmots purchased The Gallery at Flat Rock from founder Suzanne Camarata, who opened that location in 2015. Kelly, a Gallery Associate and Artist Liaison, holds a BFA in ceramics from East Tennessee State University and manages artist relations and customer interactions.

The gallery operates in the 7th Avenue District, the Creative Edge of Hendersonville. Following record flooding from Hurricane Helene in September 2024, the business pivoted its model to support professional artists whose livelihoods were affected by the disaster. The collection features works by artists such as Kate Thayer, Marsha Hammel, Alec Fehl, Cynthia Wilson, Denise Markbreit, Barbara Jones, Alec Hall, and Kelly Chelena, alongside pieces by Julie Wilmot.
