Founded in October 1976 by Doug Carlton, a Duke University graduate, the company began with a strategy to bypass government regulations by having customers rent and drive the trucks while crews handled packing and loading. This approach led to investigations by the ICC and audits by the IRS, but Carlton won a nine-month legal battle in 1982, securing a license to operate in all 48 contiguous states and set his own rates. Today, the company employs crews who have been with the business for over a decade and provides exact pickup and delivery dates rather than windows.

The leadership team includes CEO Doug Carlton and Operations & Sales Manager Brad Cave, who started as a mover and has worked there for 16 years. The business is fully licensed with USDOT #0233952 and FMCSA #MC159007, holds an NCUC license #C-2262, and maintains an A+ BBB rating. It handles customs paperwork and ocean freight for international moves and offers one-touch containerized storage.
