Emmer Brothers Cedar Outlet is a fence company and retail lumber yard in Belgrade, Montana, serving the Gallatin Valley and the wider Bozeman and Big Sky area of southwest Montana. The yard specializes in Western Red Cedar and Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and also carries Spruce, Pine, Fir, Aspen, Alder and Brazilian hardwoods in a range of patterns and grades. Emmer Brothers Cedar opened in April 1991, when Kevin Emmer was talked into the venture by his brother Jamie, a long-time Cedar wholesaler in neighboring Idaho. The name carries family history: their grandfather, Joseph, started a Minnesota company under the same name, which grew under the guidance of their father, Jim, and his brothers. After more than a decade in a tin-walled shed in Gallatin Gateway, the business moved to its current Belgrade location in 2003. It has grown from Kevin Emmer as the sole employee to a company of six, still small enough to work one-on-one with customers.

Alongside lumber, the yard offers handcrafted Amish-built Adirondack furniture in Western Red Cedar and Messmer's wood finishes, including a penetrating oil-based U.V. Plus stain for siding, decks, fencing and outdoor furniture, a two-coat clear satin interior finish for logs and wood paneling, and a deck cleaner and brightener. Fasteners, nails and screws are stocked as well. The business is a lumber specialist and directs customers to the right material for their project. It does not ship lumber out of state, and quotes in-state deliveries on larger sales. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and calling ahead is recommended.

The office and lumber yard sit on Dynamo Drive, just off Jackrabbit Lane on the east side of the road, about half a mile from Jackrabbit Lane and roughly a mile south of the interstate. Story Creek runs about 0.2 miles away, and the Central Valley Fire District training facility and Station 6 are each about half a mile off.

That combination of specialized Cedar and hardwood stock and a six-person operation built around one-on-one service is what has kept Emmer Brothers Cedar serving Belgrade and the surrounding Gallatin Valley since 1991.
