The company traces its roots to a partnership formed on August 1, 1945, when Herman Tillman, Sr. and B. F. Lemon opened Copiah Furniture Company on Marion Avenue in Crystal Springs. Mr. Tillman provided capital from his employment with the Illinois Central Railroad while Mr. Lemon managed the business. After Mr. Tillman sold his share in the late 1940s, he re-entered the furniture trade by purchasing a load of used furniture in Hazlehurst. He sold the items in an unused dining area of the Hazle Hotel, which his wife, Willie Nelson Tillman, operated. Walter Dillon Nelson, Mrs. Tillman’s brother, ran the used store, and subsequent loads were sourced from Tulane Furniture Company.

Herman Tillman, Jr. joined the company full time in 1960. As the business expanded into new furniture, it took over the entire two-story hotel building. The company opened a store in Crystal Springs in 1971 and purchased a store in downtown Magee in 1972, which relocated to Highway 49 in 1992. Home Furniture Company in McComb was acquired in April 1991. A building was leased for a Brookhaven store in 2008, and a new Brookhaven store opened in August 2013. The McComb location operates from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and is closed on Sundays.

The business maintains a 4.70 rating based on customer reviews, reflecting a positive reception from the community.
