Alan and Judy Olson purchased their farm near Almelund in 1982. Twelve years later, they began growing grapes in 1994 on 15.5 acres located on the second highest point in Chisago County. After bringing grape cuttings from Elmer Swenson, they started making their own wine in 2008. Following several ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair, they opened Wild Mountain Winery in 2010 in what is now the Bottle Shop. In 2018, the operation transitioned to the second generation of Olsons, with Alan and Judy’s son Mark and his wife Jenni running the business. Jenni’s parents, Ray and Nancy Johnson, also joined the partnership. The winery has expanded to include hot pizzas, year-round events, and camping and glamping options on the property.

The winery features Heggie's Pizza, ready in 30 minutes, with options including sausage and pepperoni, pepperoni, double cheese, and the Six Pack pizza. Gluten-free cauliflower crust options are available, including sausage and pepperoni and margarita styles. Food offerings also include woodfired pizzas, cheese and crackers, and Eichten's cheeses such as Cranberry Chipotle Pepper Gouda, Smoked Gouda, and Tomato Basil Gouda. The patio hosts live music on Saturdays from May through October, featuring artists like Andy Tackett, Jeff Brooks, and Glen Everhart. The winery welcomes children and well-behaved dogs on leashes, with children under 16 required to be supervised.

Wild Mountain Winery of Rosemount combines family history and hands-on production with a welcoming venue for food and music in Rosemount.
