Blue Tree Music Education

Blue Tree Music Education is a music school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the Corcoran neighborhood of South Minneapolis. It teaches private music lessons in piano, voice, guitar, bass, cello, viola and violin, along with songwriting classes, early childhood music classes, summer camps and workshops. It is also the home of the Blue Tree Songbirds, a neighborhood children's choir. The school holds a rating of 5.00 from the customers who have reviewed it.

Owner and educator Rebecca Smith began teaching piano lessons from her home in South Minneapolis in 2010. As word spread through the neighborhood, her student base grew faster than her home could hold, and after the first annual student recital drew a larger turnout than expected, she opened a storefront in the Corcoran neighborhood. The grand opening came in December of 2012, with guitar lessons added in the New Year and voice lessons soon after. Blue Tree now staffs 32 teachers and has expanded twice, into the neighboring north and south retail spaces. Its offerings include monthly Parents Night Out events, a songwriting workshop for children focused on lyric writing, rhymes, verses and choruses, and a family drop-in class for children five and under with social songs, language development and pretend play. A preschool class for ages 3-5 meets every third Saturday at the Midtown Global Market, and the piano program starts students as early as age 3, with an early beginner curriculum built on characters, games, rhythm and sing-alongs. The studio includes a student lounge with an art table, puzzles and a library for families waiting during lessons.

The school sits on 23rd Avenue South, about a third of a mile from the Corcoran neighborhood and Folwell Elementary School, and roughly half a mile from Corcoran Park, Hiawatha Avenue and the Hennepin Overland Railway Historical Society.

Families across South Minneapolis have made Blue Tree a fixture of the Corcoran neighborhood, where a piano teacher's growing student list became a music school with 32 teachers and a children's choir of its own.
