The hospital traces its roots to Brookview Animal Hospital, founded in Golden Valley in 1975 by Dr. Marc Rothstein to provide veterinary care to dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets. Demand grew, and Dr. Rothstein opened Greenbrier Animal Hospital in Minnetonka in 1980. Dr. Leslie Goldblatt joined the practice in 1995 and became a co-owner in 1999. The business outgrew its original Golden Valley location, and in 2007, after Golden Valley Animal Hospital was purchased, it moved into a larger, more modern facility one block away. Four additional veterinarians joined over the years, allowing care to be delivered at two locations. Dr. Reimann became a co-owner in 2017 alongside Dr. Goldblatt, and when Dr. Goldblatt retired at the end of May 2022, Dr. Reimann became sole owner.

The practice describes its approach as friendly and approachable rather than cold or stuffy, with patients handled gently and treated as the team's own. Its mission centers on high-quality, affordable care and on educating clients to be better pet parents. The care team includes licensed veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and office managers, among them Stephen, Asha, Bridget, Lisa, Evett, Amanda, Carly, Lia, Megan, Jacie, Ana, and Laura. The hospital is equipped with modern tools and technology, maintains a retail area where clients can purchase pet care products, and offers a pet portal and online shopping.
