The American Karate Studio has been operating since the 1970s. It currently has three locations across the West Suburban Area: Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, and New Hope. The majority of classes at each location are taught by head instructors with decades of experience. Mr. Vic Marotta serves as the Minnetonka Head Instructor, and Ms. Sandra Obermiller is the St. Louis Park Head Instructor.

The studio has a rich legacy dating back centuries to Korea, the homeland of Tae Kwon Do. It strives to carry on that legacy and tradition through generations of students. Mr. Jun Hyon, in 1965, described this ancient art of self-defense as applying scientific uses of hand and foot techniques. He noted that for the young, karate is a developer of character and maker of maturity. For the middle-aged, it is the maintainer of health, matching the mind and muscle. For the older, it is an exercising tonic that reawakens keen senses and tones muscles.

The studio is situated on International Parkway, just over a tenth of a mile from Bass Lake Road and about a quarter mile from Liberty Park.
