Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest is a campground in Aitkin, Minnesota, located at 21927 U.S. Highway 169. It is a private, gated RV resort on the northwest side of Mille Lacs Lake, where residents own their own deeded RV lot and are members of an association that owns and operates the campground. Access is available year round, supporting both summer and winter activities. The grounds cover 400 acres developed into private campsites arranged in six separate towns: Canterbury, Nottingham, Banbury, London, Cannock Chase and Derby. With more than 800 campsites, it is one of the largest campgrounds in Minnesota.

Membership carries an annual assessment, evaluated each year, which can be paid in two installments due on or before April 1 and July 1. The office is open weekdays from 8am to 4:30pm, and the clubhouse keeps extended hours during the camping season, from 8am to 10pm Friday and Saturday and 8am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday, with special hours for holiday weekends and the week of the Fourth of July. Friars Kitchen serves during the camping season, open Friday from 3pm to 8pm, Saturday from 11am to 8pm, and Sunday from 8am to 3pm, with breakfast from 8am to 11am. Water is typically turned on around the third or fourth week of April, once ground frost is gone and air temperatures rise, and shut off beginning the Monday after the second Saturday of October, depending on weather. Members can submit maintenance work orders, and a call button at the front gate connects to an on-call person for after-hours power or major water issues.

The campground sits along U.S. Highway 169, about a mile from the highway itself, roughly two miles from Big Pine Lake and two and a half miles from Round Lake. Garrison Bay is about three miles away.

Sherwood Forest pairs deeded lot ownership with association-run operations, giving Aitkin-area members a year-round base on the northwest shore of Mille Lacs Lake.
