Bramhall

Bramhall is a bar in Portland, Maine, situated as a modern speakeasy tucked away in the West End neighborhood. The pub serves creative comfort food alongside a cocktail menu, a local beer selection, and specialty drinks, and it caters to walk-in guests looking for a dinner or late-night outing. It holds a rating of 4.50 based on customer reviews.

Descending a set of front steps, guests enter a brick and stone lined subterranean chamber lit primarily by candles and dim sconces, with antique stained glass windows providing the only natural light. Bramhall offers one of the city's largest collections of bourbon, scotch, and rum, paired with a diverse and affordable wine and beer list. The kitchen turns out imaginative comfort food designed to anchor a long night, including Frito Pie with corn chips, chili, and cheese, Chicken Tenders served buffalo, lemon pepper, or truffle parmesan style, Eggplant Parmesan Sandwiches, and a Bramhall Smash Burger with cheddar, pickles, tomato, onion, and romaine. Late-night snacks keep the menu going after the full kitchen closes, and house appetizers like the Caesar Salad with crispy guanciale and parmesan, Fried Calamari, and Miso Brussel Sprouts round things out.

The bar sits on Congress Street, steps from the Portland Fire Department's Bramhall Station and a short walk from the Neal Dow House museum. The neighborhood is anchored by the convergence of Congress Street, Deering Avenue, and Park Avenue, with the Parkside Community Policing Center also nearby.

The cocktail program, bourbon and rum depth, and underground setting have shaped a reputation that matches the rating Portland diners have given it. As a subterranean hideout in the West End, Bramhall delivers the kind of drinking and eating experience that feels specific to its historic neighborhood.
