The store quarantines and observes its fish to confirm they are eating and healthy before sale, and new freshwater fish, marine livestock, and aquatic plants arrive twice a week, with Thursday and Saturday visits offering the widest selection. Staff advise against purchases that do not suit a customer's setup, prioritizing long-term customers over quick sales, and take time to teach the nitrogen cycle, fish compatibility, and care requirements. Beginners and experts are equally welcome.

The store sits on Georgia Avenue, near its intersection with Seminary Road and a short distance from 16th Street. It is about a tenth of a mile from Silver Spring Fire Station 19, roughly two-tenths of a mile from Calvary Lutheran Elementary School, and about three-tenths of a mile from Montgomery Hills Park.

Customers describe the staff as knowledgeable and friendly and the fish as healthy, and the store is noted as an aquarium specialty shop that has stayed in business for four decades or more.
