Wertman Photography began around the time Monika graduated from Frostburg State University; she opened her own studio after an academic advisor recommended she build her portfolio before pursuing a master's degree, starting the business from her home, registering the name with the State of Maryland, joining the Chamber of Commerce and networking groups, and later moving into a studio space.

For most sessions, including weddings, the studio meets clients in person before booking so both sides can get to know each other. Session fees for seniors, families, maternity, kids, and the Celebrate You session are separate from print and digital products, with product pricing given during the consultation. Wedding coverage includes all-inclusive packages and heirloom photo products, with a complimentary engagement session, two photographers on the wedding day, and a wedding album with digital files. The studio also offers gift cards, photo classes, workshops, and merchandise, and has completed photo restoration work for clients.
