Auclair's Market

Auclair's Market is an ice cream shop and family operated supermarket in Somerset, Massachusetts. The store carries summertime supplies including charcoal, firewood, ice, paper products, beer and wine, alongside a meat department offering USDA Choice or higher beef, store made chicken and beef kabobs, original pub patties, store made Italian sausage, lamb chops, Grade A poultry and veal. The seafood department offers fresh shellfish, fish fillets, swordfish and prepared clam boils. The deli prepares custom store-made salads such as Cucumber Feta and Onion Salad and Lemon Orzo Pasta Salad, plus prepared hot food, grinders, soup and meat pies. Marinated meat is prepared on the premises using Grade A poultry and USDA Choice beef with house formula marinades produced and bottled at the store, packaged in cryovac for traveling, boating and camping. Sandwiches are made fresh daily, including a chicken club built on steakhouse marinated chicken cutlet with in-store smoked bacon, an Italian on the store's own hot French Parisian bread, and a meatloaf sandwich made with fresh in-store ground hamburger. Auclair's was founded in 1918 by Francois Auclair, who emigrated from Canada in the early 1900s, worked in the Fall River mills, saved his wages and bought a local grocery market at 64 Brightman Street in Fall River's north end. In 1945 his son Fernand and his wife Joanne bought the market, and Fernand operated it for over forty years. In 1968 the Brightman Street location was taken by eminent domain for the Route 79 Highway, and Fernand moved the business to County Street in Somerset, building a modern grocery store. Denis and Dorothy's son, Matthew, plans to carry on the Auclair's tradition. Store hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm Sunday and 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Saturday.

The market sits on County Street, about a tenth of a mile from Riverside Avenue and a fifth of a mile from Breeds Cove. The Somerset Police Department and Somerset Fire Department are both roughly three tenths of a mile away, and Somerset Berkley Regional High School is about four tenths of a mile from the store.
