The business was opened in 1988 as Village Ski and Sports, originally a year-round specialty store that, over its first twelve years, also carried beachwear, sailboards, water skis, running shoes, soccer and baseball equipment, tennis and racquetball gear, and apparel. By 2000, the shop had grown enough to build its own building, and on New Year's Eve of that year, with the help of employees, customers, and friends, the team moved into the new location. On January 2, 2001, the store reopened under the name Village Ski & Snowboard, a change that reflected the rising popularity of snowboarding at the time. In 2022, the original owners, Rich and Nancy, handed the business to their son Keith and his wife Kaelah. Keith grew up around the shop, and Kaelah joined in 2016 after working in the ICU at Good Samaritan in Brockton, bringing experience in a fast-paced environment, inventory management, and administration. The couple now run the store with their two daughters and a dog.

The store sits on W Central Street, just off West Central Street and within a short walk of Franklin Police Department, the Staff Sergeant Robert Pirelli Veterans Memorial Rink, and Oak Street Elementary School. Franklin Sculpture Park is also nearby.

With more than three decades in operation, Village Ski & Snowboard has served New England skiers and riders since 1988.
