Family Medicine & Acupuncture LLC is an acupuncture practice in Kenner, LA. The clinic is led by Wei Guo, MD, a family medicine physician whose training spans both conventional Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Guo earned his medical degree in China in 1989, completed an orthopedic residency there, and worked as an orthopedic surgeon at a Level I trauma center focusing on trauma, spine surgery, and sports medicine. He later received a second medical degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine for MDs in 1997, the highest integrative medicine degree offered in China, and spent 1999 as a visiting clinician in the Orthopedic Department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Guo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and holds memberships in the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians. He founded Family Medicine & Acupuncture, LLC with the goal of providing integrative continuity care for the whole patient, and is described on his own site as the only family doctor in the United States who completed three years of acupuncture training in China after five years of medical school. Before settling in Louisiana, he held a California acupuncture license and served at South Baylo University from 2000 to 2006 as clinic supervisor, associate professor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and department chair, where he also designed the university's doctoral program in oriental medicine and was its first instructor. The clinic operates by appointment only, with hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is located at 527 W Esplanade Ave in Kenner.
