Colonial Designs

Colonial Designs is a florist in St. Matthews, Kentucky, located at 3712 Lexington Road. The business began in 1951 as a full-service florist founded by Maurice and Anne Brotzge at the corner of 38th and Broadway in Louisville, where the couple arranged flowers in the front of the building and kept their home in the back. In 1963 the business moved to its current location on Lexington Road in the heart of St. Matthews, and over time it expanded beyond flowers to become a destination for home decor, unique gifts, and women's fashion. Flowers are no longer part of the business. Today daughter Terry Dayton and granddaughter Amy Moyer run Colonial Designs together, continuing the family operation that has served the area since 1951. The shop holds a rating of 4.70 from the customers who have reviewed it. Hours are Monday through Friday 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, and it is closed Sunday.

The storefront sits on Lexington Road, a short distance from its intersection with Frankfort Avenue and roughly a quarter mile from the Our Honored Dead memorial. Chenoweth Lane is about three tenths of a mile away, and bus stops at Lexington and Macon and Lexington and Bauer are within steps of the entrance.

What began as a flower shop on Broadway has stayed in the same family for more than seventy years, and that continuity is the thread running through Colonial Designs' history in St. Matthews.
