6th District Elementary School

6th District Elementary School is an elementary school in Covington, KY, serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade on Maryland Avenue. The school offers full-day kindergarten to students who turn five on or before August 1, and provides a range of programming beyond the standard school day. Students in grades 4 and 5 can take part in soccer, basketball, and cheerleading. The school also operates Dolphin Zone, an after-hours extension of the school day offering enrichment activities, and partners with Camp Covington, a five-week summer program providing academic support, fitness activities, and enrichment opportunities. Families can access additional support through the on-site Family Resource Center, which works to remove nonacademic barriers to learning, and a mentoring program that matches volunteers with individual students.

The school is guided by a mission of building a SPIRITED community dedicated to empowering all students to achieve their personal best, with a vision built on working hard, asking questions, valuing feedback, embracing differences, and staying safe. Joe Moran serves as principal, and the school day runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Instruction is supported by an English Learner program, special education services, speech and library staff, an RTI/MTSS coach, a school psychologist, and an instructional coach. Meals are provided through Nutrition Services of Covington Independent Public Schools. A School Resource Officer is assigned to the building, and the school is governed by a School-Based Decision-Making Council. Parents can stay connected through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, which provides access to grades, attendance, and school supply lists.

The campus sits on Maryland Avenue, within walking distance of Holy Family School to the south and just a short distance from Greenup Street and East 20th Street. 19th Street Hollow park is roughly a third of a mile away, and the Wallace Woods neighborhood lies nearby.

As a public elementary school within the Covington Independent Public Schools district, 6th District Elementary School offers a broad mix of academic instruction, enrichment, athletics, and family support services to its students throughout the Covington community.
