A native of Topeka, Nathan Ham graduated from Topeka High School in 1978 before playing football and studying photography at Butler County Community College. He went on to receive a scholarship to play for the Lobos at the University of New Mexico, where he earned a bachelor's degree in a multidisciplinary curriculum and has since applied that background to running a successful studio. With over 40 years in the industry, he is recognized for his quality and service. Nathan Ham Photography is a long-term member of both the Professional Photographers of America and the Kansas Professional Photographers Association, and has earned numerous awards. Recent honors include KPPA Photographer of the Year in 2013, 2017, 2019, and 2022, KPPA Best of Show in 2022, and a Top 3 placement at the first World Photographic Cup in 2014 for his portrait "Peek a Boo." In 2010 and 2011 he received the Silver Award Professional Photographer of the Year, placing among the Top 125 of 25,000 members. He has built his business over the last 39 plus years largely on referrals from satisfied clients.

The studio sits on NW Laurent Street in Historic North Topeka, about a fifth of a mile from Great Overland Station and within a short walk of Northwest Topeka Boulevard. Housed in a native stone building constructed as a Baptist Church in 1871, the 12,000 square foot two-story studio has been renovated to feature original architectural elements and antique furnishings, with an award-winning garden outside.
