The business began in 1946, when James W. Harris was a night shift car inspector on the railroad and his brother Merl suggested he supply glass to a salvage yard. What started in a garage on Peter Street in Logansport grew as Jim took on glass and screen repair for homes and businesses. James L. Harris joined his father full time in 1956 after returning from the Korean War and IU, and the two opened a location at 6th and High in Logansport. The company was incorporated in 1963 and moved to its current location in 1966. Over the years it added commercial glass replacement and storefront work, mirrors, tabletops, storm doors and windows, and replacement windows and doors. Tim Rich, Jim's son-in-law, joined as a salesperson in 1991, bringing a background in agri-business sales and marketing.

Harris Glass remains a family-owned company. It selects its suppliers carefully and keeps up with new developments in glass products and services. The company is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and offers an emergency service line.

The shop sits on Burlington Avenue, about a tenth of a mile from American Legion Post #60 Park and a fifth of a mile from Fairview Park. CCUSA Pond is roughly three tenths of a mile away, the Max A. Nelson Memorial about four tenths of a mile, and Old State Road 25 half a mile off.
