The Gardeners is a full-service, family-owned landscape design, construction, and maintenance company serving the South Shore of Massachusetts. The company was founded in 1975 by Jay Desmarais, originally operating as Duxbury Gardeners. In 2025, Jay passed the business to his sons, Kyle and Matt Desmarais, who serve as Co-Owners. Kyle Desmarais previously founded H2O Irrigation in 2006 and holds a business degree from Quinnipiac University. The company offers luxury poolscapes, patios, terraces, fire pits, landscape design, and maintenance. They operate a landscape design center in Kingston, MA, where clients can view hardscape materials, plantings, and outdoor living displays.

The design/build division creates custom outdoor living spaces using natural and engineered materials. The process begins with a site visit by a certified landscape designer to discuss goals and review the portfolio. The designer prepares a unique full-size landscape plan or sketch incorporating existing and proposed elements, followed by a financial proposal and material selection. Once the contract is signed, materials are ordered and construction permits filed. The design build team oversees construction to ensure quality.

The company has been a market leader in commercial and residential property maintenance for over 30 years. Professional horticulturists and certified landscape technicians develop customized plans with annual goals. Each maintenance client is assigned an Account Manager who serves as a single point of contact. Services include weekly lawn mowing, spring and fall cleanups, mulching, weeding, planting, and brush cutting. For lawn mowing, crews are uniformed and follow strict protocols, including collecting grass clippings and blowing off hard surfaces. The company also provides complete landscape lighting design and installation, as well as irrigation installation, repair, and maintenance.
