The winery has been making wine for over 25 years. The owners broke ground for Pomona Winery in 1989 and opened as a licensed winery in 1991. At that time, it was the second winery in the area and the sixth in the state. The winery released its first two apple wines in 1993 and opened its first tasting room in its cellar in 1995. In 1995, the winery teamed up with Alto Vineyards, Owl Creek Vineyards, and the Carbondale and Southernmost Illinois Tourism bureaus to create the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. In the fall of 2004, the winery expanded into its current tasting room. Meghann Shelato serves as the wine maker.

The tasting room is open Thursday and Friday from 12pm to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. Customers can purchase wines through VinoShipper.
