Goodale Memorial Chapel was founded in 1904 and has been owned and operated by the Kurtz family since 1990. The firm is part of the same organization as Kurtz Memorial Chapel, which was started on November 3, 1977, by Karl and Marilyn Kurtz when they moved into a farmhouse at the corner of Cedar and Francis Roads in New Lenox. At that time, Karl also acquired a 1972 maroon Cadillac ambulance and began Kurtz Ambulance Service, with Marilyn handling dispatch and paperwork from the family home around the clock. Marilyn still serves as secretary and treasurer, starting her workday at 4 a.m. Karl Kurtz was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1995 and passed away in 2016 from complications of the illness. Today, his son Tom Vana serves as President and CEO of the organization.

In addition to funeral arrangements, the firm offers online memorials where family and friends can post condolences, share memories, upload photos, and light candles, as well as personalized tribute videos produced from family photographs and available on DVD or digital file. The funeral home has also partnered with local florists so flowers can be ordered directly from an obituary page.
