Tritone Music School

Tritone Music School is a music school in Elk Grove Village, IL, offering private and group lessons across a broad range of instruments including piano, guitar, vocals, trombone, trumpet, saxophone, bass, and drums. The school serves students year-round from communities across the northwest suburbs of Chicago, including Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Palatine, Elk Grove Village, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Des Plaines, and Hoffman Estates. Tritone holds a rating of 5.00 from its customers.

At the center of the school is the Tritone Piano Method, authored by owner Chieko Garling, which is built around the idea that music should be played, not merely read from the page. The method focuses on what the school calls the "Sheet Music Wall," the point at which a student stops playing without a book in front of them, and addresses it by teaching the underlying structure of music rather than just decoding symbols. Students learn to play from memory by understanding the patterns behind songs, to improvise and compose by grasping chords and structure early on, and to bridge the gap between hearing a piece and performing it. The studio is equipped with a Yamaha G1 grand piano and a Baldwin grand piano, and students are invited to schedule a personal visit to see the spaces and review the method books. Tritone also accepts inquiries from students interested in becoming Tritone teachers, and its instructors are available for events in formats ranging from cocktail solo piano to a 16-piece big band or dance band. Lessons run continuously through the year, with hours Monday through Friday from 2 to 9 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.

The school sits on South Arlington Heights Road, about two-tenths of a mile from Biesterfield Road. Within roughly a third of a mile are the Elk Grove Village Public Library, Salt Creek Elementary School, Elk Grove Village Hall, and the Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

With a perfect 5.00 rating and a teaching approach centered on ear-first learning and creative freedom, Tritone Music School brings a distinctive method to piano and instrumental education in Chicago's northwest suburbs.
