The Leider family has been in the flower business for over 125 years, tracing its heritage to settlers from Luxembourg. Michael Leider, Sr. emigrated in the late 1890s, beginning with fresh vegetables in Chicago and later potted flowers in Evanston. His son, Michael Martin Leider, expanded operations in the 1930s. By 1965, Michael Martin moved the company to Lake County, building the first completely new ultramodern greenhouses in the Midwest. Third-generation managers Jim and Gerry expanded the business into retailing and commercial divisions in the 1960s, pioneering the "Interior Landscape" concept. This led to the formation of Tropical Plant Rentals, Inc., which grew to become the largest interiorscaper in the United States before being sold in 1988.

The current 18-acre Aptakisic Road greenhouse complex covers approximately 10 acres of ground area. It features a moveable Dutch tray system with sub-irrigation, where all water and fertilizer are re-circulated to be environmentally friendly. The facility includes spacing robots and automated cold storage coolers, making it one of the most efficient in the industry. Today, the business is led by fourth-generation family members Mark and Mary, who focus on producing and delivering high-quality plants. The garden center is open to the public, though the company does not guarantee, exchange, or accept returns on plant material once it leaves the greenhouses.

The business is known for its positive rating from the customers who have reviewed it, reflecting a long-standing reputation for quality plant production.
