Clinton Humane Society

Clinton Humane Society is a pet store and animal shelter in Clinton, Iowa, dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and rehoming homeless and neglected animals. It serves Clinton and the surrounding communities as an open admittance shelter, accepting stray and injured animals brought in by citizens and local police departments. The organization facilitates pet adoptions, accepting owner surrenders as space allows, and offers resources to support animal welfare throughout the region. Clinton Humane Society holds a rating of 4.60 based on customer reviews.

Founded in 1941 after a group of citizens convinced a police officer to let them take an injured dog to a veterinarian rather than have it destroyed, Clinton Humane Society has grown from a grassroots effort into a private non-profit organization. The shelter is supported by tax-deductible donations, fundraising events, grants, memberships, and boarding contracts with the municipalities it serves. Its mission focuses on providing care for suffering and homeless animals, preventing cruelty, and advancing humane education. The organization believes every animal is valuable and deserves a good home with loving owners, and it works to give a voice to animals that cannot speak for themselves.

Clinton Humane Society is located on Main Avenue, about a third of a mile from 19th Avenue Northwest. Eagle Heights Elementary School sits roughly 0.6 miles away, with Deer Creek about a mile to the south and Medical Associates just over a mile from the shelter.

The shelter's longstanding presence in Clinton reflects decades of community-supported animal welfare work, sustained in large part through the efforts of its volunteers and a board of directors led by President James McHugh, Vice President Jamie Glover, and Secretary Amber Metzger, alongside directors Karen Rowan, Wes Tharp, and Angela LaCroix. After more than 80 years of operation, the organization continues to serve as a place of hope and compassion for animals in eastern Iowa.
