Hilo Fine Art Center

Hilo Fine Art Center is a printing service in Hilo, Hawaii. The studio specializes in digital art reproduction and fine art and photography printing using the Giclee inkjet printing process, producing prints on canvas, fine art paper and photo paper. It also offers canvas stretching services and supplies. The business holds a rating of 4.70 from customer reviews.

The studio scans artwork with a CRUSE Synchron 40x60 table scanner, a touch-free, non-contact system that scans under stable, homogenous lighting. The scanner's digital files are used by organizations including the Getty Foundation, The Pentagon, NASA and the Vatican. The lighting combinations are designed to reproduce fine surface textures, and framed art can be scanned even under glass. Reproduction work follows copyright law: the customer must be the creator of the piece or hold written permission from the artist. Digital files can be printed, and fine resolution digital images can be created from regular and oversize original art. Canon printers use roll paper up to 44 inches wide and pigment-based archival inks, and prints receive a UV coating for protection from the elements.

Canvas stretching is priced by adding length plus width and multiplying by two. Larger frames need corner bracing or center supports, and custom-built 1.5-inch stretcher bars are available, as are joiners and hanging hardware. Custom-cut wood stretcher bars come in any length up to 10 feet, and plain art canvas can be stretched for original paintings. The address is 16-643 Kipimana St #14. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 5:30pm, with other days as needed and by appointment.

The studio's rating reflects positive feedback from the customers who have reviewed it. For artists in Hilo seeking Giclee reproduction, scanning and canvas stretching under one roof, the center pairs archival printing with the equipment and supplies to finish a piece.
