Awapuhi Labyrinth

Awapuhi Labyrinth is a unique spiritual and meditative space located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, HI, offering a peaceful environment for reflection, mindfulness, and personal journeying. Though not an assisted living facility, the labyrinth serves as a sanctuary open 365 days a year, sunrise to sunset, inviting visitors to walk its winding path as a practice of meditation and inner balance. Designed as a double-sized replica of the 13th-century Chartres Cathedral labyrinth in France, it features an eleven-circuit pattern that spans a 90-foot diameter and covers four-tenths of a mile one way. The name ‘Awapuhi means “ginger plant” in Hawaiian, symbolizing resilience and growth. At the entrance, a stone bears the Latin inscription Solvitur Ambulando, “it is solved by walking”, emphasizing the transformative power of mindful movement. The labyrinth is a place for quieting the mind, releasing stress, and reconnecting with presence, beauty, and the rhythm of life.

The space was originally built in 1999 by Christie Wolf with the support of her husband, John. It was later cared for for over a decade by Deborah Masterson, a certified TaKeTiNa rhythm teacher and artist, who integrated drumming, movement, and creative expression into its spiritual practice. The labyrinth has long served as a place of retreat and renewal, with a deep connection to rhythm, nature, and contemplative practice. Visitors are invited to walk the path with intention, allowing each step to align breath and body, fostering inner calm and clarity.
