The Globe

The kitchen is open every day from 11am to 10pm for lunch and dinner. The Globe opened in the fall of 1989, serving the first pint of Guinness on draft in downtown Athens on a Saturday. The building, possibly constructed as a laundry for a hotel across the street around 1897, later served as a furniture store in the 1940s and 50s before The Globe became its longest occupant. The establishment was built by friends and family, with original staff drawn largely from the University Library. The beverage program features 19 international and local beers. Seasonal drink offerings include the Harvest Old Fashioned, made with bottled in bond rye, spiced pear liqueur, sugar, and bitters; the His Girl Friday Gin, featuring ginger liqueur, grapefruit, bitters, and a scotch rinse; and a cocktail combining Hotel Nacional rums, apricot liqueur, pineapple, lime, and sugar.

The Globe fosters a community atmosphere, combining food, drinks, and event hosting to serve the Athens area.

The Globe sits on N Lumpkin St, just steps from the R.E.M. memorial and the Vince Dooley Memorial Intersection. It is also near the main roads of West Broad Street and East Broad Street.
