Downtown Pet Hospital first opened its doors in March 2005, built on the site of the first veterinary clinic in Orlando, which was established in 1937. The original practice was started by Dr. W.M. Lynn in 1926 out of his home and was later continued at the present location by his nephew, Dr. D. Lynn, who treated both small and large animals with horses and cows being brought up to the door. Drs. J. Califf and E. High later purchased the practice and building from Dr. Lynn and carried out a full renovation in the early 2000s. Dr. Christine McCully joined the practice in 2005, helped grow it over the following years, and completed her purchase of the entire practice in May 2019. She earned her undergraduate degree from Stetson University in 2001 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in 2005, with professional interests in dermatology, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and medicine. Dr. Brooke Minton, who also holds a University of Florida degree and completed her DVM there in 2012, shares in the practice's daily surgical and medical caseload. The facility includes five examination rooms, two veterinary surgical suites, two dental suites, an in-house laboratory, laser surgery, a companion therapy laser, full body DR digital radiography, a dental machine with DR digital dental radiography, ultrasound, digital cytology, a well stocked pharmacy, and a treatment area for hospitalized, intensive care, and post-operative patients. The team incorporates low stress handling techniques to create a calming environment for every visit.
The clinic sits at 110 Weber St in Orlando, just off North Magnolia Avenue and roughly a tenth of a mile from North Orange Avenue. Senator Beth Johnson Park is a short walk to the south, and the I-4 Express lanes run about a third of a mile away, making the hospital easy to reach from across the surrounding neighborhoods.
With a 4.60 rating and a team of four veterinarians working out of a fully renovated facility on a site with continuous veterinary use going back to 1937, Downtown Pet Hospital stands as one of the longest established small animal practices serving Orlando's pet owners.
