Children's Dance Workshop

Children's Dance Workshop is a dance studio in Watertown, CT. It offers dance lessons for students from 2 1/2 years old through adult in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, musical theater and hip hop, with class placements based on age and skill level. Offerings include Creative Kids for ages 2 1/2 to 4, Hip Hop for ages 4 and up, Beginner Combo classes for ages 5 to 8, Intermediate Competitive classes for ages 8 to 13, Advanced Competitive classes for ages 14 and up by invitation, and adult classes for dancers of all ages. The studio was founded by Elizabeth Thomson Carpenter in 1970 and spent its first 20-plus years on Davis Street in Oakville before moving to Westbury Plaza on Main Street in Watertown in the early 1990s. It moved a short distance down the road in the early 2000s, then returned to Westbury Plaza in the spring of 2010. In 2020, after 50 years of ownership, Miss Liz passed the studio to Lisa Hamel Rein. Creative Kids teaches introductory tap and ballet steps along with counting, coordination, jumping, skipping, hopping and rhythm. Hip Hop classes cover breaking, popping and locking with age-appropriate music and choreography. Beginner Combo classes build foundations in tap, jazz and ballet through terminology, technique, timing, musicality, teamwork, recital choreography and across-the-floor exercises. Intermediate Competitive classes strengthen tap, jazz and ballet technique and introduce lyrical from the 10-12 age group onward. The studio's competitive companies include Senior, Teen, Junior and Petite Companies plus Hip Hop Inc. and Jr. Hip Hop Inc., with regional competitions in the spring and Nationals in the summer.
