Michael's Dairy

Michael's Dairy is an ice cream shop in New London, CT, serving hand-scooped ice cream in more than thirty-five flavors along with shakes, sundaes, floats, spritzers, and pints and quarts. The shop has been bringing together the New London community and its guests for more than eighty years, with generations of families and friends returning to share in the experience. It holds a 4.70 rating from the customers who have reviewed it.

The dairy sits on land with deep roots in the area. It began as the Mitchell Dairy farm, originally known as Mumford Dairy, and was acquired by the Buscetto family in 1943, who renamed it Michael's Dairy. What started as a milk processing operation shifted to ice cream in the 1950s when the Buscetto family found a ready appetite for it, and the business went on to become the last milk processing dairy in New London, handling milk through the 1970s. In 2006, Mitchell College acquired the dairy, and proceeds are devoted to helping Mitchell College students in their education. The shop is open daily from noon to nine between April 1 and October 30.

The shop is on Montauk Avenue, roughly a third of a mile from both the Thames Yacht Club and Burr's Marina, and about four-tenths of a mile from Mitchell College and its library, with Ocean Avenue Learning Academy nearby as well.
