The building at 369 Capitol Avenue dates to 1890, when it opened as the Hartford Grocery Company, which operated as a grocer through the early 1900s. During prohibition, a disguised speakeasy ran in the basement while the grocery store continued upstairs. In 1933, Irish immigrants the Kenneys opened Kenney's Restaurant there, and the establishment has been open ever since. An Italian-American family purchased it in the 1970s, and four generations later the same family carries on the traditions Kenney's and Red Rock were built on.
