Nickerson Park Camp Grounds is a campground in Chaplin, Connecticut. It sits in the Natchaug River Valley, at the heart of more than 12,000 acres of state forest, and has been run by the Nickerson family since 1967. The campground offers a range of campsites, from riverside tent sites with water, electrical and cable connections to full-hookup pull-through sites with 50 amp electrical service and on-site sewer, accommodating everything from tents to larger buses. The stretch of the Natchaug River along the campground's banks is designated a Trophy Management Area, stocked with large trout, with deep pools and rapids that draw anglers; a Trophy Room displays previous catches. During the camping season, a Sunday service is held from 9 to 10 am, with a different local pastor speaking each week and free coffee and bagels. The campground also donates more than 10 percent of all camping fees to more than 30 nonprofits, charities and missionaries. A zero-tolerance policy bars outside firewood from the premises in compliance with state and federal rules aimed at the Asian longhorned beetle, emerald ash borer and Dutch elm disease.
The campground is located at 1036 Phoenixville Rd. Reeds Pond is about 0.3 miles away, Goodwin Brook about 0.4 miles, and Beaverdam Brook about 0.8 miles. Halls Pond Boat Launch is roughly a mile from the grounds.
Guests camp along a trout-stocked stretch of the Natchaug River and step directly into thousands of acres of Connecticut state forest, a combination that has kept the Nickerson family welcoming campers to Chaplin since 1967.
