Founded in March 2020 by Josh Childress, the academy officially opened its doors in June of that year following the closure of Jackson’s MMA association, where Childress had served as head coach of the BJJ program since early 2016. Josh Childress, Pueblo’s first BJJ black belt, has been part of the local martial arts community since 2006. He began training MMA at age 25 before focusing solely on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The academy prides itself on being home to the only Pueblo native Jiu-Jitsu black belts. The team emphasizes perfecting every part of the process, incorporating the latest methods and effective techniques from the highest levels of the sport.

The coaching staff includes Juan V, the head coach and avid competitor who began MMA at age 10 before switching exclusively to Jiu-Jitsu. With over a decade of coaching experience, Juan travels out of state to compete and brings extensive knowledge of meta techniques to his students. Coach Augie, a CSU-P alumni and collegiate wrestler with 15+ years of wrestling experience and 6 years of coaching, leads the academy’s superior wrestling program. He places 6th in the NCAA Super Regionals at heavyweight and provides students with the confidence needed to dominate in competition. The academy also features Big Juan, father of Coach Juan V and six other children who have trained at the gym.
