TopCops Driving School of Lafayette

TopCops Driving School of Lafayette is a driving school in Lafayette, CO. The school provides driver education to Colorado teens and adults, with classroom instruction delivered by off-duty and retired police officers who teach the same SIPDE skills used to train rookie police officers. Services cover the full set of courses Colorado requires for a teen to obtain a driver's license, including a 30-Hour Driver Education Course offered in-person, through virtual Zoom sessions, or as self-paced online modules, the written permit test with IEP and 504 accommodations available, 6-Hour Behind-The-Wheel driving lessons, and the Colorado Driver's License Test, which the school notes the DMV no longer administers directly. A Defensive Driving Course is offered for newly licensed drivers, and Adult and Senior Driver Safety Evaluations are available for assessing whether an older driver remains safe behind the wheel.

Established in 2012, TopCops was built around a stated commitment to zero accidents, drawing on instructors' firsthand experience investigating crashes involving young drivers. The curriculum follows Colorado's Graduated Driver Licensing framework and goes beyond standard rules, teaching students how to handle a tire blowout, change a tire, and respond when pulled over. Each student also takes part in a brief parent orientation that prepares families to serve as home driving instructors during the permit period. In-person classes are held at the YMCA in Lafayette, and the school operates multiple pickup locations across Boulder, Broomfield, Erie, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville, Superior, Niwot, Thornton, and Westminster, most of them at or near local high schools.

Office hours run Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and registration for the fall and winter 30-Hour Course sessions is currently open, with both in-person and online options available.
