The hospital was founded in 1985 by Dr. Klingerberg, known as Dr. K, who built the clinic on the western edge of Greeley after obtaining a one-acre plot from the neighboring Mahan farm, a property long known locally as The Pumpkin Farm. The hospital's name draws from Sheep Draw, the creek that runs through the area. Dr. Jordan Dewing joined the practice in 2017 shortly after earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University, where he had earlier completed his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. Originally from a small dairy farming community in northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Dewing moved with his family to Longmont as a teenager and later to Fort Collins. He purchased the practice in 2023. His professional interests include strengthening the human-animal bond, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine. The hospital is staffed by a team of experienced animal lovers dedicated to providing compassionate care and treating every patient as if it were their own pet.

The hospital is located on West 10th Street, about a third of a mile from Pumpkin Ridge Natural Area, the park whose history is tied to the original farm that inspired the hospital's original naming debate. Sheep Draw creek runs roughly the same distance away, giving the practice a direct geographic link to its name.

With a 4.80-star rating across more than 6,200 reviews, Sheep Draw Veterinary Hospital has built a longstanding reputation for veterinary care in the Greeley area. The practice continues to serve the community from the same western Greeley location where it was established nearly four decades ago.
