TippiToes Preschool

TippiToes Preschool is a preschool in San Mateo, CA, serving families with children from 18 months through 5 years of age. The school organizes its enrollment into three programs: a Toddler Program for ages 18 to 36 months centered on play-based learning, language development, and growing independence; a Preschool Program for ages 3 to 4 years that combines early literacy, math, STEM exploration, and nature-based learning; and a Pre-K Program for ages 4 to 5 years that focuses on early academics, STEM, and project work aimed at kindergarten readiness. Families interested in arranging a visit or learning more can reach the school by email at [email protected] or by phone at (650) 264-9339.

The school's approach is Reggio-inspired and inquiry-based, with learning designed to emerge from each child's natural curiosity rather than from worksheets or pushed milestones. Curriculum planning begins with careful observation of how each child thinks, interacts, and engages, then uses that observation alongside developmental knowledge and academic goals to design hands-on projects, nature experiences, and meaningful play. Teachers continuously reflect on and refine the work, so each child is supported and challenged at their own pace. Early academics, STEM exploration, language development, and nature-based learning are woven together in ways that are developmentally appropriate, and the school places equal weight on social-emotional growth, self-regulation, confidence, and secure relationships. Time spent in nature is treated as central rather than supplementary, encouraging observation, creativity, resilience, and connection to the environment.

The school sits on E 39th Ave, with Laurel Creek roughly 0.2 miles away, George Hall Elementary School about 0.3 miles away, and the Bayshore Freeway also about 0.3 miles away. Casanova Park, Los Prados Community Garden, and Laurie Meadows Park are each within roughly 0.4 miles.

TippiToes Preschool holds a rating of 5.00 based on customer reviews. Its Reggio-inspired, nature-rooted approach for the youngest learners in San Mateo sets a deliberate tone for the years that follow.
