The store is a social enterprise of Compassion Planet, a non-profit organization that started over a decade ago to provide hope for under-served youth in the Greater Sacramento area. Founders Scott and Jacquie Flanagan began this work after mentoring Marvin, an aged-out foster youth who faced homelessness. They invited him to live in their apartment for five and a half months, helping him secure employment and housing. This experience led to the formal launch of the organization in the summer of 2013 with the help of friends Todd and Luann Johnson.

Compassion Planet serves youth aged 18 to 24 from at-risk backgrounds and aged-out foster youth through a one-year mentoring program. The program provides 1,000 to 3,200 hours of services over up to 20 months. Adult mentors are trained in trauma-informed environments and complete monthly training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention. Trainees work with therapists to create personal blueprints for independence. The program includes basic life-skills workshops in financial management, health, communication, and leadership, alongside soft skills group sessions and on-the-job training internships.

The store holds a 4.40 rating from customers who have reviewed it, reflecting the community support that sustains its mission.
