Foothill Locksmiths was founded in Hayward in 1956 by Shirley "Sy" Lucas, who moved to California from the midwest, taught himself the locksmith trade, and opened a shop on Foothill Boulevard. He was joined by his wife Lena, and later by his son Stan and daughter-in-law Gayleen. In 1960 the business moved to 595 East Lewelling Boulevard. It is now owned and operated by its third and fourth generations. President Blaine Lucas is a third-generation security specialist certified by the Associated Locksmiths of America, the Safe and Vault Technicians Association and the National Safeman's Organization, and contributes to locksmith industry publications. Fourth-generation specialist Dustin Lucas works at the store and in the field, and Katelyn Lucas Radtke serves as Operations Manager. Many of the company's specialists are registered with ALOA and all are licensed by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

The business is located on East Lewelling Boulevard.

Its long history in the Bay Area, spanning more than six decades and four generations of the founding family, is matched by a 4.80 customer rating, and the Hayward Chamber of Commerce has recognized it as a responsible, reliable and ethical business devoted to customer service.
