Bar Shiru is a bar in Oakland, CA, located at 1611 Telegraph Ave #100. It operates as the Bay Area’s first hi-fi vinyl listening bar, playing mostly jazz, soul, and international grooves on vinyl while primarily playing albums in their entirety. It does not serve food and is strictly 21+.

Inspired by Japanese jazz kissa encountered in Tokyo in 2015, Bar Shiru opened its doors in February 2019 with a focus on playing great albums in their entirety. The interior utilizes more than 75 acoustic panels and design choices that prioritize acoustics to create a welcoming space where guests can intentionally listen or have a conversation without raising their voice. The concept promotes slow listening, allowing the full breadth and dynamics of an album to be appreciated. Musically, jazz serves as the jumping-off point, expanding into soul, funk, afrobeat, dub, and hip hop. The intimate layout features small tables designed for groups of six or fewer. To provide the best possible experience and acoustic environment, the bar only accepts groups of six guests or less without prior arrangements and does not allow groups to split up or combine tables.

In addition to nightly curated vinyl, the venue hosts weekly music programming and special events, including the Selector Series, Silent Sundays, and No Room For Squares classic jazz night. Located in the heart of Uptown Oakland, the bar is a few short blocks from many other bars and restaurants, non-profit organizations, and live music venues including the Fox Theater and the Paramount Theatre of the Arts. It is situated right next door to Cafe Van Kleef.
