The school was founded in 1990 by Sensei Bruce Schram and his teacher Roy Oyakawa. Shorin-Ryu, which translates to "young or small pine forest," was created by Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura. Koshiki Karate-Do trains in the Shidokan branch, meaning "House of the Way of the Warrior," which originated in the 1930s under Chibana Sensei. The dojo has operated for nearly 30 years in the South Bay. Sensei Schram, a 7th degree black belt in Shorin-Ryu, was a five-time National Koshiki Karate Champion and a six-time World Koshiki Karate Champion. He also held a 1st degree black belt in Kenpo and Tae-Kwon-Do. Sensei Schram retired and passed the school to three senior students who continue the instruction.

The instructors include Sensei Jason Flentye, Ryan Tanaka, Austin Greene, Jason Lockhart, and Bryan Orellana. Sensei Flentye began training at age nine in 1990 and earned his 1st Dan Yudansha in 1994. The lineage traces back through Sensei Roy Oyakawa, Iha Sensei, Miyahira Sensei, Chibana Sensei, Itosu Sensei, and Matsumura Sensei. The training philosophy incorporates the "Do" or way, applying martial arts lessons to everyday life to balance mind, body, and spirit. The school was awarded the Best Martial Arts School in Lawndale for 2024 and 2025.
