The business was founded in the early 1970s by two partners who met in a coin shop: a young LA County Deputy Sheriff and the employee working there. After the deputy purchased the shop and later partnered with the employee to open a second location in Orange County, they eventually separated but remained friends. The employee continued in the industry for 30 years, expanding into jewelry, watches, and diamonds, while the deputy retired. Forty-five years later, they reunited to open Laguna Coins in Laguna Woods, bringing their combined 80 years of experience in coins, sports cards, and collectibles.

Laguna Coins maintains the largest coin buy board in Orange County, allowing customers to list and sell items at their own price with a 15% commission upon sale. The store operates with specific hours: closed on Sundays, open Monday through Friday from 10 am or 11 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Customers can request verbal evaluations by texting clear images of items to 808-562-7370.
