Hidden Treasures was founded in 2009 by Brad Gilpin, the Owner and Program Director of Care-Rite, in response to limited job opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The store works directly with Care-Rite, a family-owned vocational service that teaches life skills to intellectually disabled adults, helping them become more self-sufficient and independent. During the week, customers can see Care-Rite participants working alongside their job coaches, as well as more experienced individuals working independently across all areas of the store. Proceeds from sales fund enrichment activities including art, cooking, sign language, reading, dramatic arts, and life skills classes, and also assist other nonprofit community organizations. The organization operates as a registered 501(c)(3) and is a phone call away at (760) 723-2800 for those who want to shop, donate, volunteer, or schedule a pickup.
