Goodland Little School

Goodland Little School is a daycare and play-based preschool in Goleta, California, serving children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years old. The school welcomes families from all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and also accommodates children with special needs when those needs can be met with reasonable accommodations. Operating Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Goodland Little School describes itself as the neighborhood preschool for the community and offers flexible plans for families in the Goleta area.

The school's educational philosophy centers on the idea that children learn best through play. Rather than providing answers outright, the staff creates opportunities for discovery and active exploration, allowing each child to develop individuality, positive self-esteem, and independence. Hands-on activities encourage growth across social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative areas, while group experiences teach self-expression, communication skills, and consideration for others. The lead teacher, Meg, was born and raised in Japan before moving to Santa Barbara. She holds an A.A. in Early Childhood Education from Santa Barbara City College and a B.A. in Child Development from Seitoku University in Japan, and has been teaching toddlers and preschoolers since 2007. She brings hands-on learning experiences to the program and incorporates elements of her Japanese culture and educational philosophy into the daily environment.

The preschool sits on Daytona Drive, about a tenth of a mile from Climbing Castle Park and within a third of a mile of both Hollister Avenue and the Coronado Butterfly Preserve. Cannon Green Park and Devereux Creek are also nearby.

Goodland Little School has been part of the Goleta community for years, with a teaching lead whose work with young children dates back to 2007, reflecting the kind of steady, long-term local presence that families often look for in a neighborhood preschool.
